Block Biosciences: McMaster startup aims to prevent cancer from spreading to the brain
Block Biosciences was co-founded by Jakob Magolan and Sheila Singh, both executive members of the university’s Global Nexus, after their breakthrough research was published in Cell Reports Medicine. The startup is working on a first-in-class precision medicine that will prevent secondary metastatic brain cancer.

Many congratulations to Dr Singh! She has been appointed as the new Joint Head of the School of Cancer & Pharmaceutical Sciences and Head of the Comprehensive Cancer Centre. Her academic position at King’s will be as Professor of Neuro-oncology and Neurosurgery, and she will hold a senior strategic advisory role with Evelina London, part of Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust.

PhD student David Bakhshinyan stepped into the boxing ring to raise funds and awareness for research on aggressive childhood brain cancer. He participated in the KO for KIDS Charity Event in Niagara Falls, which raised more than $100,000 for Pathstone foundation for teen mental health, BoxRun charitable foundation for Ronald McDonald House, and childhood cancer research at McMaster University.
